Inspire : Public Works Mar Apr 2013
6 Public Works Professional March-April 2013 | From the President | |From theCEO| IT NEVER CEASES TO AMAZE ME HOW MUCH IS going on at the National level and I am really excited about the path that IPWEA is forging into the future. With the launch in this issue of Young IPWEA, our under 35s, I thought I would focus my message on our future growth and leaders. This new initiative is being supported 100% by National and all States and it is fantastic to work with such an enthusiastic group of Young Members. There are a number of very exciting initiatives and marketing campaigns that the YIPWEA Committee will be releasing over the coming months. To start with, in showing their commitment to the big picture, the YIPWEA National Committee has agreed to have one logo and branding for use in all States, rather than developing State specifc logos. This, in my opinion, is a fantastic move and it will enable all States to reap the benefts of the promotional material developed, irrespective of their size or number of young members. It clearly shows that collectively we can achieve so much more. The National Board has allocated a recurrent budget for the YIPWEA as we see it as one of the most important initiatives to ensure we have a vibrant, successful and sustainable Association going forward. The National Foundation is also fully supportive of this initiative and has indicated to the YIPWEA Committee that they will consider funding worthwhile projects that further the development of young professionals in public works. As a further demonstration to their commitment, the National Foundation has agreed to sponsor the YIPWEA stream at the Dar win Conference. This will help ensure the Conference is relevant and interesting to younger members who will one day be our future leaders. And judging from their talent, it won't be very long before they become our leaders! Now it's your turn to assist. I call on all of you to become enablers, so your younger staff members can attend the Dar win Conference. I encourage you to support their attendance at our premier event and make a concerted effort to provide them with the opportunity of attending one of our National Conferences and reaping the benefts. As you can see, I am passionate about our future leaders and think we should support and develop them whenever we can. I was lucky to have a Director who supported and guided me at an early stage in my career, and I am thankful to him. So now let's give our younger members an opportunity to beneft from attending the IPWEA National Conference at an early stage in their career.
